Sharon's WeddingThe next day, Carmela took me shopping for a new gown to wear at Sharon's wedding. We found one at Florence Shop in Bergenfield. I told my daughter that it was nice, but I would also like to go to Lane Bryant at the shopping mall to look for a dress. On our way we were busy talking. Carmela passed a red light and a policeman stopped us and gave her a $20 ticket. It was the first time in 34 years that Carmela ever got a ticket. I paid half of the ticket, because she was taking me around. I didn't find any gown I liked, so back to Florence Shop we went and put a downpayment on the gown. It was a beautiful wine colored dress. Sharon's wedding day was on August 18, 1979. It drizzled all day long, but we managed not to get wet. The fellows and groom all showered and got dressed at my house. The bridesmaids all got dressed at the bride's house. The church was full of Sharon's and Paul's relatives and friends. The wedding was beautiful. My son Tony had four daughters and two sons in the wedding party. Tony surely was a proud father walking his daughter down the aisle. Then the two sets of parents brought the offering to the altar. The priest performed a very nice ceremony. My dress was wine colored with pearls in the waist line. I wore a pearl necklace and earrings. Everyone remarked how pretty my dress was and how lovely I looked. It made me feel good to get so many compliments. We all went to the reception. We had hot soup, a piece of pineapple filled with fresh fruit salad, rolls with butter, green salad, roast beef with a baked potato and string beans. For dessert there was wedding cake, ice cream and coffee. The people all intermingled and danced. It made me happy to see my grandsons dancing with their cousins. I danced with my son-in-law Dick, two grandsons Tony and Mark, and a friend. The bride and groom looked beautiful. Everyone was dressed lovely. Tony and Lorraine worked hard and did a good job. The night of the wedding my husband's sister and her husband slept at my house. In the morning we had breakfast and chatted to our hearts content. Then we took a walk all around the place. At 11:00 a.m., her son and daughter-in-law who had slept at the Clinton Inn, came and walked to my son's house to see the newlyweds leave. I stayed at Tony's house for two hours. We talked about the wedding. We all felt a little let down after all the excitement and then suddenly it was so quiet. Then on August 20, my granddaughter Judy left for California. I felt very blue to see her leave. She kept saying, Please come to visit me sometime, Nana. One of the senior citizens called and invited me for lunch on the following Wednesday; next Friday another friend is having me for supper. I thank God for my friends. The Tuesday after the wedding, Tony, Lorraine and Linda and a friend of hers went to the shore for a few days. Two of their sons were home working. I gave them their supper at my house. I am glad I did, because I like to keep busy and have company over for dinner. Copyright 2000 Richard A. DeVenezia. All Rights Reserved.
