Remembering Tony in Canada
Two days after Easter my son Tony went into the
hospital. He had not been feeling too well; from his symptoms the doctors
thought he had an internal condition. I tell you, we always have something to
worry about.
I had supper at Tony's house because I wanted to see
him when he came home from the hospital. My grandson Tony was still home from
his college on Easter vacation. He was glad he could help his father out with
his work. He gave me a ride to my senior citizen meeting. At the meeting they
showed us a beautiful picture of old Quebec. The town is quaint. It looked as
though it was in France.
My husband went to Canada with a friend for a week in
about 1950. He went as far as Mont Jolly, quite a ways north. They had also
visited Quebec. He thought it was a lovely place. They went fishing one day and
they caught many fish. They stayed at a little cabin, with no heat or light.
They had a wood burning stove and kerosene lamps. He said that during the night
the water kept hitting against the cabin. He was frightened, but the French
people who owned the cabin were not afraid. They said they were ready to die
any time God wanted them. In the morning the water quieted down, so they went
fishing again. They caught several large fish. They cleaned them and cooked
them in the wood stove. My husband said they tasted very good. My husband was
glad to get home and settle down to the comforts of life and my home cooked
meals. It was a very good experience for him. He and his friends got to see
many beautiful places also.
