Generosity

The year my husband passed away I gave all our children $1,000 as a Christmas gift. The grandchildren all got their own gifts. The younger grandchildren give me a list of what they would like. I try to buy them one of the items. The older grandchildren like to get money, then they can buy what they want. In February, 1979, I gave each one of our five children $2,000 to use as they saw fit. I enjoy being alive and seeing my children do different things. The saying goes, “You can't take it with you.” How true that is; you leave everything behind on earth. You just take your soul with you. If you are good on earth, you get your reward in heaven.

People used to tease my husband by saying, “Spend your money. If you don't someone else will spend it for you.”

He would tell them, “Worry who you will leave it to.” Some of the people had no children. “I'm leaving mine to my wife, five children and 23 grandchildren.” How right he was. The grandchildren all love to talk about him.
