Vermont
My husband and I went with another couple to visit a
friend in Vermont. They lived in Burlington, right near Lake Champlain. We
slept there two nights. They took us to see many lovely places. We saw the
University of Vermont. We went inside and all around the grounds. We saw the
cows and horses and greenhouses. We enjoyed it all. We also went to see Saint
Michael's College. We were glad to see both places because our son-in-law,
Dino, had gone to school at both of them. We enjoyed talking to Dino about
them.
It was the time of the changing of the leaves in
Vermont. The colors were like magic when we were riding around. They were red,
yellow, orange, and green. It was lovely looking up and down the mountains and
seeing all the gorgeous colors.
We went across Lake Champlain with our car on a ferry
from Burlington to Plattsburg N.Y. The waters were rough. It rocked us from one
side to the other. Our friends said to my husband, If you can take this, you
can take a cruise sometimes. It is hardly ever this rough. The next week our
friends wrote and sent a clipping from a newspaper saying that it was the worst
weather that they had had in many years. No wonder the boat was so rocky. We
stopped at Lake George on our way home. It is a peaceful place. We had supper
in Lake George in a quaint-looking place. We were tired but very happy with the
trip.
We gave our friends, John and Kay Tobia, a blue spruce
my husband grew from a seedling. We gave it to them as a house gift when they
bought a new house in Haworth, N.J. Today the tree is huge and very pretty. The
Tobias call it the Lupardi tree. They are very happy with it.
Time rolls on and we don't realize it. Our children
were all married and owned their own homes. Our oldest grandchild, Judy, was
about to graduate from Wagner College as a nurse. She graduated cum laude; we
were all thrilled for her.
