Ann Graduates
In June, 1952, Ann graduated from high school. I still
had a bad back. I rested in the sun most of the time. I couldn't attend Ann's
Baccalaureate. Ann felt so bad I couldn't go. Her father and sister went. She
still remembers my not going because I had attended all school functions
before. On graduation night we had a small party for Ann. Her Aunt Lunette and
Uncle Ralph came to visit as a surprise. They lived in Dover, N.J.
Graduation was held out-of-doors. It was a beautiful
night. Ann got the Music award, the English award and the American Legion
award. When she received the American Legion award, we all jumped. It meant
that each of our three daughters had received an American Legion award. Carm
and Phyl had won it at their eighth grade graduations and now Ann from high
school.
Now we had three married children, one would be a
senior in college in September and Ann would be entering college. Ann was
accepted at two colleges. Saint Elizabeth's was one of them. She chose Saint
Elizabeth's College. Phyl was happy that Ann and she would have a year together
in college. By now my husband and I were really modernized. We had lost a lot
of the old Italian customs. The last two girls got more privileges than Carmela
had.
