I want to build a soccer scheduling system with using double round-robin with 18 teams, but I have some constraint that must be fulfilled...
some of them maybe like this :
- Each team plays each round either at home or away.
- Each team plays at most one sequence of two consecutive rounds at home (home stand). This
condition implies that no team plays more than 2 consecutive rounds at home.
- Each team plays at most one sequence of two consecutive rounds away (road trip). This
condition implies that no team plays more than 2 consecutive rounds away.
- etc. (there are another constraints)

so can I ask about what good methods / algorithms to fulfill all those constraint when generate schedule for double round-robin....
maybe you can explain to me about the process to fulfill all those constraints or if I have another constraints again ?!

and can I ask too about formal rules (constraints that they used) from FIFA when build schedule for soccer league ?!

thanks a lot...

Check out the topic called "Court Balanced Round Robin" also in the requests section.  It has my Excel schedule generator which will make a single round-robin satisfying your constraints above.  For 18 teams, it will give you a schedule where each team plays either one home stand or one road trip, otherwise home and away matches alternate.  For the second half simply use the same schedule but swap home for away.

I don't know about your other constraints or FIFA rules, but you could use the randomise feature of the generator to keep generating schedules until you find one that works for you.

You might want to try crenshaw.htm(now rrpair.htm), checking the double round robin box.  Swapping the next to last round in the first half with the round before it might eliminate any team having home or away status for three straight rounds.

I had seen the suggestion about reversing the next to last round in the first half with the one in front of it in order to not have anybody have the same color three times (or team be Home or Away 3 times).  That idea doesn't work at all in that the cure is worse than the disease as a number of players would have 3 straight, not just two.  Any better ideas?  The following tables show what happens; I kept the original round numbers.
