Thank you Ian!!

I know I'm responding a year later, but I'm here trying to organize the tournament again for this year's event and I can say that the schedule you provided worked!!

Appreciate it!

Thanks again!

Hello,

If you are logged in to the forum then you will be able to dowload v5.1 of my Excel Spreadsheet.  This will do what you want for any even number of teams. The file is macro enabled, so you will need to unblock it in file explorer and enable macros when you open it. (BTW it will not run on the Mac).

To get a schedule you need to do the following:
dial up the number of teams in cell A1
click on "Home/Away Format"
Select "do not randomize" from drop down list
check "Double Round-Robin"
uncheck "Multi-table layout"

You will be left with something that looks like the attached image.

The green and yellow background colours represent home and away respectively.  The 8 teams can be paired in such a way that the two teams in a pair have alternating patterns of home away. Specifically the pairs are (A G), (B H), (C D) & (E F).

Requests / 22 and 24 team fixtures

Hello
If possible, I would like home and away fixture lists for 22 and 24 teams, 42 and 46 games respectively, with the following conditions:-
- Teams to alternate home and away as much as possible
- Teams to play all other teams once before playing them a second time
- Each team to be paired with another team, so that if one is at home, the other is away
Thank you for your help

Yes, remove the match 4 column to leave 7 rounds on 2 courts.  The removed matches can then be rearranged into 3 more rounds as follows:
( 4 5) ( 2 8 )
( 3 4) ( 7 8 )
( 2 3) ( 6 7 )
which leaves ( 5 6) to be played in an 11th round on its own.

Hi HGS,

When it says player 1 is the ghost, it means that you should take the schedule for 8 players, and then delete all the matches that involve player 1. This will leave you with a schedule that involves 7 players ( numbered from 2 to 8 ) with 3 matches per round.  In each round, the player who was scheduled to play the ghost in the original schedule, is now the player with the bye.

Hope that helps,

Ian

A cyclic schedule for 7 players can be formed by using match 1 as the bye match.

Let player 1 be a ghost, and the other player in match 1 sits out the round.

I dont understand that.:(
Please can you explain it to me.

Thanks ... I'm missing the 2x reserve.

I also found this one ... I can fill it in twice ... I only have to shuffle the names in the 2nd 14 round list.

Hi Markie,

A balanced schedule is not possible here, but the closest it is possible to come to meeting you criterion of 'everyone 2x' is to have 30 rounds.  In the schedule below players 6, 9, 11 & 14 have one fewer game than all the others, but adding the match (6 11 vs 9 14) would give you everyone paired together exactly twice.

( 8 10 v 14  3)  ( 5 12 v  4 13)  (11  6 v  2  1)
( 1 11 v  7 10)  (12  4 v  8 13)  ( 3  9 v  5  2)
( 6  9 v  1  4)  (11  5 v  8  7)  (10 14 v  3 13)
