Comments and Thanks / Excel with Macro to create fixtures with dates.
« Last post by TRW on April 23, 2025, 12:40:14 PM »
Over 10 years I have created an Excel file with Macro that creates dates for up to 700 matches automatically. Info required includes season start & end, bank holidays, courts availability by day of the week, team holidays, no clash teams etc. I use it create fixtures twice a year for around 20 clubs with over 100 teams in around 10 divisions. It takes several hours to run on decent workstation but the results would be almost impossible to achieve manually.
If you are interested please get in touch. I am not looking for payment, just don't want to waste 10 years of development.

Four players in teams of 2 can be scheduled in a Whist layout.

See this table for 28 players

Hi,

I am holding a euchre tournament with 26 people in 2 days from now

We would like everyone to partner with each player 1 time in the tournament

We have 6 tables and assume 2 people will need to sit during each round

Are you able to draw up a schedule for us?

Thanks,

Janet

Here is a basic 8 week schedule that should work, this time there is no way to arrange it into a balanced square like the 10 teams schedule above.

(2 7 9)  (1 4 8)  (3 5 6)
(5 7 8)  (1 2 6)  (3 4 9)
(6 8 9)  (2 4 5)  (1 3 7)
(2 3 8)  (1 5 9)  (4 6 7)
(2 5 7)  (1 3 8)  (4 6 9)
(3 6 7)  (1 2 9)  (4 5 8)
(1 5 6)  (2 3 4)  (7 8 9)
(3 5 9)  (1 4 7)  (2 6 8)

Hope that works for you.

One team has now left the conference, and we have just 9 teams for next season.

Could you possibly whip up one of these where a 9-team conference would play each other twice each in a triangular setting, now not needing teams to have a bye week?  Should take just 8 weeks instead of ten now, I believe.

I think the schedule below is close to optimal.

(1 2 v  6  9)  (3 4 v 7 10)  (5 v  8)
(1 3 v  9  8)  (4 5 v 6  7)  (2 v 10)
(1 4 v  8 10)  (2 5 v 9  7)  (3 v  6)
(1 5 v 10  6)  (2 3 v 7  8)  (4 v  9)

where players 1 to 5 are group A, and players 6 to 10 are group B.  Players 1 and 7 are the two players who always play in a foursome.  Hope that helps.

I am looking for the optimum golf parings for 10 players split into 2 groups playing 4 rounds.  The rounds will be played as 2 foursomes and a twosome.  Each group will have 2 players from each team with the exception of the the twosome.  Thanks for your help!

There really is no good solution here as you have to compromise on something.  I can offer the schedule below, where the compromise is that team 2 competes in 8 matches, while the other teams only have 7 matches each, but the schedule does have teams play each game once or twice, and all opponents once or twice.

    G1    G2    G3    G4    G5    G6
R1 (1 4) (2 3) (- -) (- -) (- -) (- -)
R2 (- -) (- -) (3 5) (1 2) (- -) (- -)
R3 (- -) (- -) (- -) (- -) (2 4) (1 5)
R4 (- -) (4 5) (- -) (- -) (1 3) (- -)
R5 (2 5) (- -) (- -) (3 4) (- -) (- -)
R6 (- -) (- -) (1 4) (- -) (- -) (2 3)
R7 (3 5) (1 2) (- -) (- -) (- -) (- -)
R8 (- -) (- -) (2 4) (1 5) (- -) (- -)
R9 (- -) (- -) (- -) (- -) (2 5) (3 4)

I thought about having 7 games, but then the best number of rounds would be 14 which is well over your limit of 10.
