1) I have a 20 player, 5 court mixed doubles tournament.   I would need every male to play against every male and every female to play against every female and the mixed partners not to repeat too often (I know that is not easy)

2) 24 players, 5 courts mixed.     I am planning to go 12 rounds.   I understand the metrics that 4 players will have a bye each round, so 12 rounds would be each player sit twice.  The mixed matchups can be random, just ideally the same gender players not play against each other more than twice

Any help would be greatly appreciate,
Maarty

Hi Maarty,

The first of the two schedules that I posted in this thread should work for the 20 players.

Below is a different version of the second schedule from the old thread which should work for 24 players

[(M02 F11):(M08 F09)] [(M03 F08):(M06 F04)] [(M04 F02):(M05 F12)] [(M09 F03):(M12 F10)] [(M10 F05):(M11 F06)] [(M01 F01):(M07 F07)]
[(M01 F08):(M11 F09)] [(M03 F04):(M10 F11)] [(M04 F01):(M12 F05)] [(M05 F07):(M09 F10)] [(M07 F03):(M08 F12)] [(M02 F02):(M06 F06)]
[(M01 F06):(M08 F04)] [(M02 F10):(M04 F11)] [(M06 F09):(M11 F07)] [(M07 F02):(M12 F08)] [(M09 F01):(M10 F12)] [(M03 F03):(M05 F05)]
[(M01 F05):(M02 F12)] [(M03 F02):(M11 F10)] [(M05 F11):(M07 F08)] [(M06 F01):(M08 F03)] [(M10 F06):(M12 F07)] [(M04 F04):(M09 F09)]
[(M01 F04):(M12 F02)] [(M02 F09):(M07 F10)] [(M04 F07):(M11 F08)] [(M06 F11):(M10 F01)] [(M08 F06):(M09 F12)] [(M03 F05):(M05 F03)]
[(M01 F03):(M04 F08)] [(M03 F11):(M09 F07)] [(M05 F10):(M11 F01)] [(M07 F12):(M10 F04)] [(M08 F05):(M12 F09)] [(M02 F06):(M06 F02)]
[(M02 F08):(M03 F12)] [(M04 F05):(M08 F11)] [(M05 F02):(M10 F09)] [(M06 F10):(M12 F04)] [(M09 F06):(M11 F03)] [(M01 F07):(M07 F01)]
[(M01 F02):(M09 F11)] [(M02 F07):(M12 F03)] [(M03 F01):(M04 F06)] [(M05 F09):(M06 F12)] [(M07 F04):(M11 F05)] [(M08 F08):(M10 F10)]
[(M01 F12):(M03 F10)] [(M02 F05):(M10 F07)] [(M05 F08):(M12 F06)] [(M06 F03):(M07 F11)] [(M08 F01):(M11 F02)] [(M04 F09):(M09 F04)]
[(M01 F11):(M05 F06)] [(M02 F03):(M11 F04)] [(M03 F09):(M12 F01)] [(M04 F12):(M06 F07)] [(M07 F05):(M09 F02)] [(M08 F10):(M10 F08)]
[(M01 F10):(M06 F05)] [(M02 F01):(M09 F08)] [(M03 F06):(M07 F09)] [(M04 F03):(M10 F02)] [(M05 F04):(M08 F07)] [(M11 F11):(M12 F12)]
[(M01 F09):(M10 F03)] [(M02 F04):(M05 F01)] [(M03 F07):(M08 F02)] [(M04 F10):(M07 F06)] [(M06 F08):(M09 F05)] [(M11 F12):(M12 F11)]

The last column above is intended for a 6th court, however it should contain all 24 players exactly twice, so instead you can assign the players in the 6th column as the byes.

The full schedules have the properties that you want, all same sex opposition pairs occur at least once (each player has one same sex opponent twice), and what you are thinking of as the hard part, all possible mixed matchups occur exactly once as partners and exactly once as opponents.

Thank you Ian,

You are an absolute legend.  I cannot thank you enough.

Looking over it I can make it work... I do have one question though.   Is there a 9 game, 2 pool version with 20 players on 5 courts that allows instead of playing all 10 in Pool 2, instead Pool 1 will oppose each other member of group one exactly once.   So each male would not play with every female but would play 9 games against the other 9 males in their division??  I would prefer to run it this way if not I will stick with your amazing original.

Maarty,

I don't think 2 pools of 10 will work, as you would end up with no play on one of the five courts, so each pool would have 2 byes per round.  Also there would be 5 males per pool, not 10 as you suggest above.
