Round Robin Tournament Scheduling

Whist tournament where you can only play a portion of rounds

Is there some sort of documentation out there for a whist tournament that stops after a certain number of rounds? I have a group that does the individual-pairs style play and the issue is that the games take long enough that there isn't enough time to run all the rounds. Is there a framework of some sort for making a schedule where you prioritize the social square aspect of group generation for a 2v2 format so that after each round you are playing with/against new people? obviously it can't be perfect, but would love to find a middle ground between the two that works for rectangular numbers (Most like 12-13 people in 3 groups of 4).
