Title: 2 Pools of 6 players, doubles play
Post by: Rosebay on February 09, 2023, 11:10:04 AM
Hello, first time poster here.
I'm trying to work out most efficient pairings for this scenario: 12 tennis players, comprising 6 best players in group A and 6 weaker players in group B. Doubles competition, but players in Group A cannot partner together and players in Group B cannot Partner together. Players should partner with the same player only once if possible and play against each other player at least once. Any advice please? Thanks!

Welcome, and thanks for your post.  What you describe is essentially the same as mixed doubles, so you could adapt any mixed doubles schedule for two groups.  For 12 players the format of play is critical, if you wish to play 6 rounds of simultaneous play on three courts, then there is no schedule that meets your criteria - there will be pairs of players who never oppose.  It is possible to schedule it as 18 games all at different times, let me know if you want to see this.

PS.  You can find the best solution here (https://www.devenezia.com/round-robin/forum/index.php?topic=1230.msg3301#msg3301).  It is playable in rounds on 2 courts.
