Title: Tennis doubles, 24 players, 6 courts, in 3 rounds
Post by: tt10 on December 04, 2022, 03:02:44 PM
I would need some help with scheduling a tennis social tournament.
24 players, doubles, 6 courts, 3 rounds of play. Every round different pairings and opponents. So every player plays in 3 rounds with 3 other players on the court. Would this be possible?

Look for "24 golfers can play in foursomes for 7 days" on Ed Pegg's page here (https://www.mathpuzzle.com/MAA/54-Golf%20Tournaments/mathgames_08_14_07.html).  In that schedule no pair of players appears in a foursome more than once, so you can use any 3 rows from it to assign your players to courts.  At a court the 4 players can be split into 2 pairs randomly - no matter how you do it, a player's 3 partners and 6 opponents will all be different people.  There is a typo in the schedule AEPS should read AGPS.
