Title: 17 golfers 3 rounds
Post by: SurreyHacker on September 08, 2020, 07:01:37 AM
A request please if anyone has a moment!

I’m trying to organise a golf trip with 17 golfers playing 3 rounds, each round is 2x4 balls and 3x3 balls.   How can I group them so that everyone plays in at least 1 four ball, and plays with as many other golfers as possible (and therefore avoids playing with the same golfer(s) too often)?

Many thanks for any contributions in advance.

I think the schedule below will work out OK.

  (11 17  8 15) ( 6  4 12  5) ( 1  2  7)  (3 13 14) (16  9 10)
  (16  1 12  3) ( 8  6 10 13) (14 11  9)  (4 17  7) ( 5  2 15)
  ( 4 14 10  2) (15  3  7  9) (17 12 13)  (5 16  8) (11  6  1)

Above no pair of players are together more than once.  Players 3,4,6,8,10,12 & 15 have two fourballs and 8 different opponents, while the other players have one fourball and 7 different opponents.  Hope that helps.

Perfect, many thanks, I could get within 1 duplicated pairing of it, but couldn’t get over the line.
Thanks again for your help.
