i have 12 golfers playing in 4 groups of 3 is it possible to play everyone once

If you mean play each other exactly once, then the only way you can achieve this is by having 4 rounds with groups of 3 and one round with groups of 4.  There is an example schedule here (https://www.devenezia.com/round-robin/forum/?topic=1226).  Otherwise you would need 7 rounds in groups of 3, to have all play each other at least once.
