we have 8 players, playing a minimum of 6 rounds of golf, looking to have each person play equally (whether it be 2-3 4 times each  (ie have player 1 play w/ players 2-8, 3 times each)  is this possible or do you need to expand and have more than 6 rounds say 12 rounds- what is the answer??  Thanks for your help in advance.

Mike,

I think you must be playing foursomes.  In which case 7 rounds is ideal since you can arrange it so that everyone plays with the other 7 players exactly three times each.

For example:

(5 2 1 7)  (6 3 4 8)
(6 4 1 7)  (2 5 3 8)
(8 6 2 1)  (5 4 7 3)
(4 8 5 1)  (3 7 6 2)
(2 6 4 5)  (1 7 8 3)
(7 5 8 6)  (4 1 3 2)
(3 1 5 6)  (7 8 2 4)

Hope that helps.

rrpair.c

I wrote that a long time ago in C, but the javascript version is more recent and much better. What I called "bye man" then is now "ghost", using Richard's term.
