Title: Rotating partner doubles Round Robin - Pickleball
Post by: civillady on March 31, 2023, 07:22:05 PM
I'm setting up a Rotating partner Doubles Round Robin on 4 courts with 24 people. Each person only will play 4 games. They do not play every player. Then I will send top players for a single elimination. So I'm looking for a spread sheet showing how to team up the 24 players randomly so they don't overlap courts, never have the same partner, and play only 4  games. Thanks in advance!

I think the schedule below does what you want - no two players meet more than once. The 8 players in the 5th column are those having byes.

  (18  3 v 15 13) (16  7 v 19 10) ( 4  5 v  9 20) (17  1 v 12 23)  ( 6 14  8 11 22 24  2 21)
  (16  1 v 13 14) (17  8 v 20 11) ( 5  6 v  7 21) (18  2 v 10 24)  ( 4 15  9 12 23 22  3 19)
  (17  2 v 14 15) (18  9 v 21 12) ( 6  4 v  8 19) (16  3 v 11 22)  ( 5 13  7 10 24 23  1 20)
  ( 7 12 v 20  2) ( 1 22 v  4 24) (23 21 v 15 11) ( 9 17 v  6 13)  (18 10  5 19 16  3 14  8)
  ( 8 10 v 21  3) ( 2 23 v  5 22) (24 19 v 13 12) ( 7 18 v  4 14)  (16 11  6 20 17  1 15  9)
  ( 9 11 v 19  1) ( 3 24 v  6 23) (22 20 v 14 10) ( 8 16 v  5 15)  (17 12  4 21 18  2 13  7)
Title: can this be modified for only 8 players?

We will have 8 players on 2 courts.  Because of the small number of participants, this may not be realistic but I'd love to find a nonrepeating format.  Every format I've found so far has me on the court with a partner -- and then the next round, he/she is my opponent.  Not enough variety, so I'd love to find a format where everyone has a new partner each of the six rounds and isn't on the court repeatedly with the same opponents. Hopefully I've explained my question adequately!  Thanks

Perhaps you are being unrealistic here - with only 8 players, there must be at least four pairs of players who are on court together in the first round, who meet again in the second round.  Four pairs is everybody once, so the experience you describe cannot be avoided.
