Title: Whist schedule with a twist
Post by: Fyrst Igor(Guest) on October 17, 2014, 11:00:02 PM
Hi all.

Ive been looking into the Round Robin and the Whist schedules, and found what I was looking for, thx for that :)

But I was trying to figure out how to make a whist tournament, where all players only played against the same person 1 time. But I got stuck. Just can't figure it out. I mean like making it some formula so I could put it into some kinda program for future tournaments.

My end result would be to type in how many players, how many courts, how many rounds and the player names, and then have it make the tournament plan for me.

Hoping someone strong in the math department can help me on my task.

regards

Unfortunately there is no universal formula, different numbers of players require different approaches.  Have a look here (http://www.mathpuzzle.com/MAA/54-Golf%20Tournaments/mathgames_08_14_07.html) at the foursome schedules.  Use these to make doubles schedules with the property that you want.  Each foursome can be assigned to 2 vs 2 in any way you want.
