Requests / Re: 22 Teams 7 games-2 sets of each game
« Last post by Ian Wakeling on February 02, 2024, 12:31:16 PM »
The playing cards sound like a major headache!  I would split the 22 teams into 1 group of 10 teams and 1 group of 12 teams.  Then for the 1st group and the 1st set  of equipment schedule:

(D G) (I F) (---) (E H) (J B) (---) (A C)
(I E) (J H) (B C) (G A) (---) (D F) (---)
(H B) (---) (I A) (J F) (D C) (G E) (---)
(A F) (B E) (D H) (I C) (---) (---) (J G)
(---) (C G) (---) (D B) (E F) (J A) (I H)
(J C) (---) (F G) (---) (H A) (I B) (D E)
(---) (D A) (J E) (---) (I G) (C H) (F B)

Where the rows are the 7 rounds and the 7 columns are the different games. For the 2nd group and 2nd set of equipment I would schedule

(B L) (E D) (---) (C I) (K H) (F G) (A J)
(D C) (---) (K L) (F A) (G J) (B I) (E H)
(G H) (L I) (A E) (D J) (F B) (K C) (---)
(K J) (F C) (B H) (---) (E I) (A L) (G D)
(A I) (K G) (F D) (L H) (---) (E J) (B C)
(F E) (A H) (C J) (B G) (D L) (---) (K I)
(---) (B J) (G I) (K E) (A C) (D H) (F L)

Above I have used some letters twice, but clearly A to J in the 1st schedule are different teams from A to L in the 2nd schedule.

If you don't tell the teams they are split into the 2 groups they will probably not notice.

Requests / 22 Teams 7 games-2 sets of each game
« Last post by YardGamesCo on February 02, 2024, 10:24:10 AM »
Hello,

I am running a winter games tournament, I have 22 teams who need to play 7 different games. I have 2 sets of every game, I need each team to play each game once and not play any team more than once. If adding in a (BYE) round helps that is fine as well.

I use to do this trial and error with a grid and playing cards for hours on end, but , life doesnt permit that anymore.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Requests / Uno Tournament 6
« Last post by schmidthaus on February 01, 2024, 10:30:03 PM »
I have been hosting an annual Uno Tournament for 5 years now.  More and more people want to come each year and I'm struggling to find rotations for so many people.  I already have 27 responses and the party is over 3 weeks away.

Setup:
I have 6 tables, each table has a different color tablecloth (red, yellow, green, blue, black, white).  Each table has a different type of Uno game to play.  The tables can fit up to 6 people.  There are no partners, every person plays for themselves.

Aims:
The primary aim is that everyone gets to play every kind of Uno (and therefore every table at least once).  The secondary aim is to have a good mix of players so people can meet many other people.

I don't mind having people who have a bye each round (they get to refresh drinks and eat snacks!), plus the day of the party there are always last-minute cancelations that I can't control for.

Requests / Re: 9 players in groups of 4

There is no simple formula for making the schedules that you want, instead you would need to create an algorithm that optimizes the schedule to your requirements (by searching a lot of different ones).  If you can play enough games, then for some numbers of players there are balanced solutions for 4-player games.  The 9 players and 2 games is one such example, as you can take the Whist schedule for 9 players, and ignoring the 2 vs 2 aspect, consider the schedule to be simple 4 player games, then every player would play with all others exactly 3 times over the 9 rounds.  Other Whist schedules that you can find on the Wiseman site and here by following the "inspired the forum" link at the top of this page may also be useful.

Two questions. Are you wanting to play games simultaneously in rounds (so in each round two 4-player games happen at the same time)?  Are you willing to play more games to achieve a balanced schedule, or are you really looking for the minimum number of games so that all pairs play together at least once?

Requests / 9 players in groups of 4
« Last post by cjpalermo on January 31, 2024, 03:36:05 PM »
So - I'm in the process of setting up a schedule for some online games for my tabletop board gaming group.

The two player stuff is easy - there are websites dedicated to that.

Setting up three player games, where each player plays with each other player once is easy (because I found a site where someone had the same inquiry; and I grabbed the answer).

But, the online game plays 2, 3 or 4 players - so there is interest in scheduling 4-player games.

What would be the way to schedule a group of 9 players into 4-player games so that each player plays in a game with each other player *at least* once (I suspect there will be some double-ups, since 8 (the remaining number of players besides *me*) doesn't divide into 3 (the number of players needed at each table besides *me*).

And, since I suspect this will come up each month - where the game changes, and maybe there'll be 7 players in tables of 5; or 11 players in tables of 3  - how would I tackle this formulaicly?

Thanks!

Requests / Re: Round robin rotating partners

I think the schedule below will work for you.  Everyone has 6 different partners, plays against 4 members of the other team once, and plays against the other 4 members twice.

(CA3 CA1 v US2 US6) (CA5 CA4 v US1 US5) (CA7 CA2 v US7 US8) (CA8 CA6 v US3 US4)
(CA8 CA5 v US5 US6) (CA2 CA4 v US7 US4) (CA7 CA3 v US1 US2) (CA1 CA6 v US8 US3)
(CA2 CA8 v US2 US3) (CA6 CA7 v US7 US5) (CA1 CA5 v US1 US4) (CA4 CA3 v US6 US8)
(CA1 CA2 v US5 US3) (CA6 CA4 v US2 US7) (CA3 CA8 v US1 US8) (CA7 CA5 v US4 US6)
(CA6 CA2 v US1 US6) (CA8 CA7 v US4 US2) (CA3 CA5 v US3 US7) (CA4 CA1 v US8 US5)
(CA3 CA2 v US4 US5) (CA5 CA6 v US2 US8) (CA8 CA1 v US7 US6) (CA4 CA7 v US1 US3)

Requests / Round robin rotating partners

I am setting up a round robin pickleball tournament with Canadian players against US players.  There will be 8 Canadians and 8 US players, playing 6 rounds on 4 courts.  Would like partners to rotate after each round and play as many different opponents as possible but keeping Canadians playing against Americans.  Thank you!

I am doing better with your latest request if I start with the schedule from reply #14 above.  Then I can get a skill score of 116, where the last round is 'ranked'.

 2 10 12  6
 2 12 10  6
11  1  7  5
11  7  1  5
 9  8  4  3
 9  3  8  4
10  8  3  5
10  5  3  8
 4 12  7  1
 4  7 12  1
 9  6 11  2
 9 11  2  6
 8 11  6  1
 8  6 11  1
 2 12  7  3
 2  7  3 12
 9  5  4 10
 9  4 10  5
11  5  4 12
11  4  5 12
10  3  7  6
10  7  6  3
 9  1  2  8
 9  2  8  1
 4  1  2  3
 4  2  1  3
 8  7  5  6
 8  5  7  6
 9 10 11 12
 9 12 10 11

hope that is of some use.

Requests / Re: Mix double 12 schedule

I believe that no 6 round schedule exists that meets your partner once and pair once criteria.  However, the 7 round schedule below has partners once or twice, and opponents once or twice.  Hope that helps.

(m6 f1 v m1 f6) (m3 f2 v m2 f4) (m5 f3 v m4 f5)
(m1 f2 v m3 f3) (m6 f4 v m5 f1) (m4 f5 v m2 f6)
(m4 f6 v m1 f4) (m5 f5 v m6 f2) (m3 f1 v m2 f3)
(m2 f6 v m5 f3) (m1 f1 v m4 f2) (m6 f5 v m3 f4)
(m5 f4 v m1 f3) (m4 f1 v m3 f5) (m6 f6 v m2 f2)
(m6 f2 v m4 f3) (m2 f5 v m1 f4) (m3 f1 v m5 f6)
(m3 f6 v m6 f3) (m5 f2 v m1 f5) (m2 f1 v m4 f4)

Requests / Mix double 12 schedule
« Last post by travbanan on January 26, 2024, 06:41:09 PM »
I need schedule for mixed doubles padel round robin for 12 players (6 men and 6 women) where each man pairs with each women once and against each other once or so close to this as possible. We have 3 court and 6-7 rounds

Anyone have one?
