I am hosting a Beer Olympics tomorrow and just had several teams back out all at once. Is this possible: Nine teams, playing ten events. I know one team will have a BYE each round, but is it possible for each team to play each other team one time as well as play all ten events. I think each team may have to play one event twice and I am okay with that; I just cannot figure it out.

Thank you so much!!!

There is no way to get a balanced schedule with an odd number of teams, and with 10 events you will have to have some pairs of teams playing each other twice.  Even giving each team the same number of events will be difficult as this can only be achieved with a multiple of 9 rounds.   My suggestion would be to drop one of the events and then play this:

(---) (F I) (D H) (---) (---) (---) (---) (E G) (B C)
(C D) (---) (G A) (E I) (---) (---) (---) (---) (F H)
(G I) (D E) (---) (H B) (F A) (---) (---) (---) (---)
(---) (H A) (E F) (---) (I C) (G B) (---) (---) (---)
(---) (---) (I B) (F G) (---) (A D) (H C) (---) (---)
(---) (---) (---) (A C) (G H) (---) (B E) (I D) (---)
(---) (---) (---) (---) (B D) (H I) (---) (C F) (A E)
(B F) (---) (---) (---) (---) (C E) (I A) (---) (D G)
(E H) (C G) (---) (---) (---) (---) (D F) (A B) (---)

This has the advantage of each team playing each other team once, but note that each team has one event they don't play.  A is missing from row 1, and column 1, B is missing from row 2 and column 2, etc.
